Short Interest

Track official short-interest reports and align their positions with daily prices until each new report takes effect.

Official Short Interest shows FINRA's settlement-date positions and changes between reports.

Read the latest report

The latest summary shows the reported short position and Short Interest % on its settlement date. FINRA publishes this series about every two weeks.

Keep the settlement date with the value when comparing it with price or other daily data.

The position and percentage belong to the displayed settlement date.

Use the daily view

The Daily view carries the latest official short position forward until a newer report takes effect. This aligns the position with daily prices, but it does not create a new short-interest measurement each day.

A flat run means the same official observation applies to each displayed date.

The Daily view carries the latest official position across each trading day.
Repeated daily values come from the same official report.

Compare level and change

The Short Interest chart shows the reported percentage. Short Position Change shows the difference from the previous official report. Toggle Price to display the stock beside either series.

The Short Interest chart indicator supports Official or Daily data in Bar, Line, or Step form. Step holds each report value until the next one.

Use the level chart for the reported percentage and the change chart for report-to-report differences.
The daily change chart marks dates when a new official value replaced the previous one.

Create a Short Interest alert

Choose Release to alert when a new official Short Interest report is published, without limiting the alert to one symbol. Choose Conditions for the current symbol and add thresholds or report-to-report changes using short position, Short Interest %, or days to cover.

A new or edited alert records the latest official settlement report without sending an old event. It evaluates the next finalized FINRA report once.

Conditions compares a stock's reported values. Release watches for a new official report.

Read the tables

Days to Cover divides the reported short position by average daily trading volume. It compares the position with typical turnover; it is not a deadline or required holding period.

The Official table shows each FINRA settlement report. The Daily table carries the latest report across trading dates. Both show Shares Float, Shares Out, Short Interest %, Days to Cover, and report-to-report position changes. Historical values are split-adjusted.

See Access and Limits for the earliest available history.

Each settlement row includes the position, ratios, changes, float, and shares outstanding.
Each daily row keeps the carried position, ratios, and share counts on the same date.
