Alternative data, measured in years.

Most market data APIs sell one thing: prices. This one is built around the data that explains the price.

What it costs to short, through the day.

Interactive Brokers borrow fee, rebate and shares available since 2016, plus Robinhood rates, updated through the trading day. Every tier includes both.

Every 15 minutes

  • Updates from Interactive Brokers and Robinhood about every 15 minutes.
  • BYND's series goes back to the week after it listed, in May 2019.
  • The chart shows each day's range. The API returns every reading inside it.
  • Backtest what a short really cost, and see shares available dry up as it happens.

Run a request. No key, no sign-up.

Pick an endpoint and a format. These are real v1 responses, trimmed to three rows. With a key, the same request pages through the full history.

Questions developers ask before paying.

Short answers. The API Reference has the long ones.

How is the key sent, and where do I find it?

Add it to every request as the api_key query parameter. After you subscribe, it's on the Premium page of your account. Keep it server-side.

What are the rate limits?

Tier 1: 60 requests per minute. Tier 2: 250. Tier 3: 1,000.

What is different during the trial?

Keys are limited to 1,000 requests in total, and the Tier 3 screener is delayed. Every other endpoint returns the same data as a paid key. To lift both, click Skip Trial on the Premium page of your account; the subscription starts right away.

Can I import it directly into Google Sheets?

Yes. Add format=csv and your key to any request and use it with IMPORTDATA: =IMPORTDATA("https://chartexchange.com/api/v1/data/stocks/short-interest/?symbol=US:SPY&format=csv&api_key=YOUR_API_KEY"). Paged endpoints return 100 rows by default; add page_size for up to 1,000. Anyone who can open the sheet can see the key, so keep the sheet private.

What format are responses in?

Every response is available in JSON and CSV. JSON is the default; add format=csv to any request for CSV.

How do I manage or cancel?

The key and the subscription are both on the Premium page of your account.
