You have been a resident for years? (meaning you are finishing residency?...it comes off like you have working for many years as a "resident" and you want to go private...not sure what you are saying honestly). It all depends on your specialty, it is sounding like if you want patients to follow you, you are in primary care (IM or FM). If that is the case, especially if you are just finishing residency, I would seriously rethink your strategy. A compliant EMR alone (that is not some sort of antiquated freeware) will cost you several hundred thousand dollars. Also, if you are not a resident and any sizable population of patients follow you, be prepared to get sued by your former employer.
