Why would it drag down the overall performance. Dividends, like Capital Gain, make your portfolio go up. With a dividend, the gain is locked in, since it's returned in cash (typically... you can also get shares returned on occasion). With that cash, you can then put money toward whatever product is performing the best, whether that's the product that just paid the dividend or something else, based on whatever criteria you choose for what it means to be "the best." For myself, I have a spreadsheet that uses both CG and Div to come up with a composite number, and then I download my portfolio, let it calculate the "composite" value, and sort by that value. The things that are higher deserve more of my money, and what's lower deserves less. Right now, the best 5 are YMAX, ECAT, BCAT, NXG, and FCO. The lowest 5 are QQQM, CNQ, ALSN, IGM, FDIG.
