If I had made a major buy (or a first buy) in January I’d be saying it’s catastrophic lol. I’d also be very disappointed if I was trying to liquidate basically anything right now.
As somebody who got into the hobby in the low $50 range, still actively buying, and who paused until the Feb 1 crash back down to $80, I’m sanguine about it all. Honestly it’s a good buying opportunity for me; yes right now my small stack is not worth what I have paid for it, but this is a good time to buy on the flash sale and drag down my DCA per ounce. (I actually tried to do just that today and one of my LCSs was picked clean lol, I’ll try at the other one tomorrow)
I have no idea what exactly caused that run-up in price over the winter, that was the event that actually got me to start paying attention to the metals and broader commodities markets. If it duplicates this coming winter, I will “trade” silver in for gold as best I can (especially if the GSR squeezes back down to the 40s)
Overall I’m just having fun riding the roller coaster, I have no particular plans to liquidate my metals until the 2040s, not buying on margin, not into it all for more than a few percent of my GNW. I’m enjoying the buying opportunity but I do feel bad for anybody who was hoping/planning to sell off this summer at $80/oz, or is experiencing an unplanned event and needs to convert back to dollars.
