So I have been having long talks with AI (Claude/gemini/etc) and they tell me that a MFE is not worth it for buy side. They say that traders get hired through top undergraduate programs, same for developers (or CS masters), and as for researchers, they prefer a PhD. AI tells me that a MFE at top universities rarely get into buy-side and majority get into sell side. I have no interest in sell side so I am asking if it’s worth it to get an MFE for quant trader/developer/researcher roles. Claude specifically says that trader roles are off the table (hiring occurs in undergrad).
Would you agree that the majority of trader roles are hired through undergrad and getting a masters in FE for a trader role is not worth it? For developer roles you are better off getting a masters in CS and for researcher roles a PhD is best (but the MFE works too)?
