lost a dart frog shipment to manila back in 2019, customs held it for 6 days and the whole box was DOA by the time they released it. the paperwork was perfect too

your best bet is finding a freight forwarder who specializes in LAG (live animal guarantee) cargo, they'll handle the airway bill and coordinate with the breeder's side. trying to arrange it yourself is a nightmare because most airlines won't deal with you directly for live animals unless you have an account

for frogs specifically you need the breeder to provide a health cert from their country's ag department, cites permit if the species is listed, and a detailed packing declaration. some countries also require an export permit separate from cites. the breeder should know this stuff, if they seem confused about it run

hidden costs, quarantine fees once it lands, customs broker fees (you can't clear live animals yourself, need a licensed broker), and the inspection fee from BAI. also the styrofoam insulated box + phase change packs aren't free, most breeders charge $50-80 just for the packing materials
