Tourmaline’s are great because they come in a million colors and naturally form in the monolith form factor. Ruby’s/sapphire’s also come in all many colors, are harder, but you have to likely get lab grown to get a saber shape?
If you are going lab grown, go YSG. Any color is possibly, 8.5 hard on Mohs, etc
