I'm a proud-ish owner of an Amazfit active 2. A few months ago I was searching for a smartwatch that wouldn't break the bank. Reddit (long RDDT) overwhelmingly recommended amazfit as it has lots of features found on premium devices at a cheaper price.
The Zepp app is alright. Lacks some functionality since it doesn't have WearOS or WatchOS, but it mostly does what you need.
It not being restricted by WearOS or WatchOS means that Zepp has its own marketplace for smartwatch apps/skins (it is lackluster but there), also 2x the market as it can be used by both phones.
The biggest features that sold me on it were the sapphire glass, 10 days of battery and good water resistance, all "essential" high end premium device features.
All this to say that they got a bit of an online cult following already and they make products that do undercut their smart watch competitors. So the current trajectory seems good, but this also depends on whether they can keep innovating and providing more value than their competitors, the Amazfit 3 didn't seem as well received online back when I did my shopping research.
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll keep a close eye on it.
