Everyone sees the obvious trade.
AI takes off, buy NVDA.
Data centers explode, buy the obvious infrastructure names.
Oil jumps, buy producers.
Sometimes that works. But once everyone understands the story, a lot of the upside may already be in the obvious winner.
So I’ve started asking a different question.
**If this keeps happening, who gets affected next?**
AI compute demand can lead you from NVDA to memory names like MU or SK Hynix, where scarcity can create pricing power.
More compute also means more power and heat, which pushes you toward names like MOD or NVT.
More data-center buildout means somebody still has to prepare the site, run the electrical infrastructure and actually get the facility operational. That’s where something like STRL becomes interesting.
It works in reverse too. If one company gains pricing power, who is absorbing that higher cost? If a bottleneck gets solved, which company loses the scarcity premium?
That’s the part I find more useful than simply chasing whatever ticker is in the headline.
But being connected to a theme isn’t enough. I want the second-order effect to eventually show up in revenue, margins, pricing power, backlog or cash flow.
And even if the fundamental idea makes sense, I still use technicals for timing. I’ll look at the 50/200-day trend, support, volume, RSI and how the stock behaves around major levels. A good thesis doesn’t mean I need to chase a vertically extended chart.
The headline tells you what changed.
**The investment question is who does that change matter to next, and has the market already figured it out?**
DYOR.
