Mueller Industries, MLI, dumped hard today. It's a favorite around here and for good reason. It's been a little volatile lately.
It dumped hard today. Down -5%, though it looks like it's rebounding a little. I did not buy the dip.
This is Canada tariffs. They get all of the bitumen from Canada and a ton of their copper/brass, and other stuff.
Canada is going to rip them a new spigot.

I don’t know if I would agree here. There are many circumstance where dividends in a taxable account make sense.
Personally I don’t believe in selling shares to “create” a dividend.
I’m not saying I dint believe it is possible. I’m saying that I view buying stocks as investing in a business no different than if I were to start my own business (with less work). I thought the stock because I believe in it and it’s long term cash flow growth.
I view, especially at OP’s relatively early age of 30, selling shares or even partial shares to “create” a dividend is also suboptimal. I view it exactly the same as selling a fraction of my own business just to create personal cashflow.
In this case, and I’m certainly open to the argument that this is simply a philosophical distinction, allocating some portion of capital to quality dividend growth stocks is complimentary to a core growth portfolio, and over time does provide support in lean years without the need to sell as many shares.
I’ll give you a good example. I own MLI. Boring picks and shovels play. Steady growth.
But they have just an amazing balance sheet for a company their size and in their industry. $1 billion cash net of debt.
Growing dividend by 20% - 30% last 3 years or so. No sign of stopping.
That means my yield in cost (the cost at which I purchased the company) is compounding at an insane rate.
And it has the added benefit of providing diversification to my portfolio.
