A lot of misinformed people commenting in here who clearly haven't looked at what VW actually owns. This is exactly the kind of setup deep value investors look for.
VW isn't only a car company. They also own a full bank and leasing business (Volkswagen Financial Services, with VW Bank inside it). VW Bank alone has about €157bn in assets, €24bn of equity and around €80bn in customer deposits.
Some rough math:
* **VW Bank**: made about €1.4bn after tax last year. Put the average European bank P/E on it (\~10x) and you get €13-15bn.
* **Lamborghini**: about €730m operating profit over the last 12 months. At Ferrari's multiple (\~29x operating profit) that's about €21bn. Even with a fair discount to Ferrari (lower margins, more reliant on the Urus) you're still at €13-18bn. BofA put it at €15-20bn, Bloomberg Intelligence at over $22bn.
Those two alone add up to roughly €30-35bn. VW's entire market cap right now is about €36bn (\~€72/share). So you're basically getting everything else for free:
* \~75% of Porsche AG (listed, worth \~€30bn on its own)
* 87.5% of Traton (Scania, MAN, International), \~€15bn at market
* €7.4bn cash coming from selling 51% of Everllence to Bain, and they keep the other 49%
* Volkswagen, Škoda, SEAT, CUPRA, Audi, Bentley, Ducati, VW Commercial Vehicles, Scout Motors
* The Chinese JVs, PowerCo (batteries), CARIAD (software), the Rivian JV, and stakes in Xpeng and Gotion
At this price the market is valuing the actual car business at close to zero, maybe less.
