good points. I would expand as follows with what I am doing - I target individual stocks with a portfolio averaging 4% between the different stocks, some being higher (ET and ENB) and some lower (AAPL SBUX) to achieve an average. Of course the yield as changed over time as some shares have skyrocketed (AAPL is one) resulting in the yield being lower, but the $$ amount of the dividend as increased. Most of the companies, but not all, are dividend kings, meaning they have increased their annual dividend every year for at least 50 years. Not a glamorous portfolio, but it is serving me well.
This year I did begin exploring income ETFs, and yes, they are Yield Max - high risk, high gain. only about 2% of my portfolio is invested this way. I have 4 of them (ULTY, NVDY, MSTY and FBY). Started this in February of this year. The only one of those 4 that is in an overall losing position (income+current price < purchase price - current price) is MSTY. When it comes to such high risk, you really got to do some research before you buy and evaluate your risk tolerance.
I have not read The Income Factory, but I am adding it to my list.
With any investment, do your own research, including when people say "Hey, this one is really good". Research is the real king in investing.
Oh, and in case you are curious, I am a few years older than you and getting antsy to retire.
