For the sake of a healthy debate, let's poke on this.
If the Shorts are trapped (which the math appears to show), why then are they not closing out their positions? I do not believe this price will hit Zero, which is their perfect scenario. It will stay at something above $.01 and be revalued or be a new Ticker at the end of the BK. At least according to the messaging in the BK.
And FYI for anyone, just because it might be delisted or become a new Ticker, does not always mean it will hit $0, as the Shorts want. Or maybe need.
There has been more shorting the last 2 weeks than the last few months. It does not make sense. The short float is now just short of 50%. Even after all this time.

Also agree on the volatility point. Being down, so far today, is not unexpected.

Carl Icahn might argue with this. Seeing as how breaking up companies that could be bought for less than the value of their assets.. Hell, it's what saved their go to BK story - Hertz. Companies with limited horizons often trade this way,.

Just looking at the real estate value, sure a store in the middle of nowhere, Kansas wouldn't be worth alot, those stores in SoCal, the land alone, not including the building, is worth millions more than most people think. I live in the Milwaukee area and know people who work at the corporate offices and they seem to feel the atmosphere is getting a little better since they fired Ashley and got rid of the hedgefund "consultant" plants that were doing shady stuff. With institutional ownership being over 100%, they are definitely trying to BK kohls and get the real estate cheap "legally" in bankruptcy court.

It depends on the bankruptcy reorganization plan. You’re correct most equity holders in the old company are wiped out and only creditors receive any compensation, sometimes in a combination of new debt, and shares in Newco. But there are exceptions if it’s a technical BK not necessarily cash/credit related.

People forget before BK our run up past $4.50 was followed by a dip to almost $3 followed by another run up past $4.50. This stuff is not a straight line.
