SOJD, SOJF, CMSC, and NEE-U were issued by massive utility companies that have contracted monopolies with their customer bases. BIPH is from one of the largest infrastructure companies in the world, and CGABL is from a massive alternative finance management company that oversees $475 billion in assets.
SOJD, BIPH, CGABL were all purchased at substantial discounts to par which pushed their yields up substantially, and also provide a hedge against a call from the issuer. If they get called, I'll make anywhere from $4.75 to $8.80 per share.
All of these are held inside my IRA so the interest payments and/or capital gains are not taxed until withdrawn.
Each of these very-long term baby-bonds that will mature long after I'm gone. Holding them until I pass acts like an annuity that allows me to own the underlying investment rather than surrender it to an insurance company.
Risks to my long-term income streams are corporate default, suspension of payments for 5 years, or being called. Another risk is inflation, but I have other investments to deal with that.
