The collectibles market is huge, but it's scattered everywhere. Cards, coins, comics, games, watches, memorabilia, autographs, diecast cars, you name it. eBay, trade shows, private sales, different graders, different levels of trust. It works, but it's messy.
GameStop could organize it. Cohen has the vision. The stock price Really needs to find its new valuation!
PSA, BGS, SGC, PCGS, NGC, CGC, JSA — they're already trusted names. Tie them directly into eBay. If I'm buying a $5,000 card, verify the grade and serial number right in the listing. Bigger purchases get escrow, insurance and signature delivery.
You don't change regular eBay. The guy selling a $20 card still sells his $20 card. You're just creating another level for serious collectibles and serious money.
More trust brings more money into the market. More money means more transactions, and eBay makes money on the transactions without owning the stuff.
That's why I think people are still looking at GameStop wrong. It's not just a retailer anymore, and sooner or later the valuation should reflect that. We should be getting close.
