You can achieve these returns IF you are extremely disciplined, extremely concentrated, and extremely long term. I’m not investing for myself. I’m investing for my son’s great grandchildren. My time horizon is long after I die. So I hold no more than five stocks and periodically add boosters to buy more of my five stocks when the value is in my favor. My boosters are spinoffs which structurally give you an advantage. For example VGNT separated for from APTV this year on April 1. Have you ever heard of it? Probably not. It’s returned about 40% in five months. I only buy a few of these per year when I feel the price falls to my favor or begins separated at a margin of safety.
The difference between myself and OP is I have spent twenty years studying the market and have two masters degrees in accounting and finance. This doesn’t make me better or worse. It is just a different perspective. My goal is not $X but the journey to get there that matters to me. This is much different and highlights the way to earn above market returns is by learning the journey. The returns themselves mean nothing to me.
