I mean, I don't disagree that the selection criteria is kind of arbitrary, but it seems diversified enough to not be a total hit or miss while still providing large exposure to tech, unlike some of the more concentrated ones like SOXQ.
I also get that the past doesn't gurantee the future, but 20+ years of track record can't be negligible, no? Otherwise how do you identify a good strategy if you can't derive any meaningful conclusion from past data. All time CAGR is pretty much the same for SPY and QQQ.

>people should recognize that QQQ isn’t this guaranteed win and when people rave about it, it’s usually a good litmus test to tell if they are doing their research or not
You're right about this though. I just started learning about investment and I have a long way to go.
I might switch to VOO or VTI as core and add some tech ETFs for more exposure, but I don't have enough knowledge to tell which is the right one.
The cash switch is meant to protect against once in a decade crashes, since there's no way of knowing how far it might fall. It's a trade-off between return and drawdown.

Ouu I’ll into that $SOXQ is down this month. How should I split my portfolio?

A lot of people lIke $SMH for semiconductors. Expense ratio is high though. $SOXQ has a lower expense ratio. They're both a basket of semiconductors and Intel is in there with other market leaders.

Not anymore, but that's because of my age and the fact that I'm nearing retirement. I owned AIS, PFT and SOXQ, but sold them off a few months ago. Still believe in them, but I feel that as I approach retirement, I need to balance my portfolio with less volatile assets. It's painful because I love Tech and AI, but what would be even more painful would be a significant downturn in that sector preventing me from retiring.

SOXQ and AIS are betting on the same theme.

If your real concern is concentration, I would start there rather than trying to optimise the entry point. SMH is the sharper bet, SOXX is a bit less top-heavy, and SOXQ is the cheaper version if you mainly care about fee drag. None of them really solves the problem that a semi ETF is still a concentrated sector swing, so I would pick the exposure profile you can actually hold through a rough patch.

I have chps, SOXQ, and smh. Chps in Ira only
They require patience and can be sensitive to everything. I trim them to buy low cost broad ETFs (schb and vxus).

Nvda is a great company - sadly, I failed to realize how big it had gotten and unrealistically expected a lot more growth than it could offer. Upon realizing that, I sold for a big loss.
This is my fault but makes it hard to not be biased.
So you prefer SMH over SMXX or SOXQ?

Your choices are SMH, SOXX, SOXQ, PSI, XSD.
I’m not a fan of the equal weighted one, XSD.
PSI uses a quant model to weight the stocks which might have some merit.
You can see PSI is the 4th worst performing one on MAX, but the best performing over one year. That’s probably just noise.
I would have to say SOXQ if you don’t like SMH, SOXQ has the lowest expense ratio and is the second best performing one on this timeline. SOXX is very close though.
