Good questions, been following Yes Bank for a while so here's how I see it:
- SMBC coming in doesn't really change how the bank earns money day to day. But yeah it does give the bank a trusted Japanese partner for corporate and cross-border lending, but that's a slow payoff they'll get over the next few years.
- The thing is their numbers are already good. Their q4 profit increased, bad loans (GNPA) were at lowest in 6 yrs and NIM improved too.
- Regarding priced in, partly yeah. The SMBC news has been out a while. What's less priced in is what comes next, management guided 13-15% loan growth for fy27 and a NIM target of 3.25-3.5% over 2-3 yrs. If they deliver, the stock could then re-rate.
- One thing to watch though, the AT1 bonds case is still pending in the Supreme Court. This could bring in short term volatility.
