Good question, I'm not sure why the AUM is so different. RCDB came out first so it had a head start. Speculating a bit here, but it's also possible that the bulk of the RCDB AUM came from another RBC fund whereas BMO is organically growing their fund from scratch.
Both funds are growing at a decent rate, see the "number of units outstanding" on both the [ZSDB](https://bmo.bynder.com/m/6589b711483200f7/original/A_MRFP_ZSDB_E.pdf) and [RCDB](https://funds.rbcgam.com/pdf/mrfp/annual/rcdb_e.pdf) MRFP.
The average bid-ask spread is [0.10% for ZSDB](https://fundfacts.bmo.com/EtfEnglish/BMO_Short-Term_Discount_Bond_ETF-EN-CAD_Units.pdf) vs. [0.08% for RCDB](https://funds.rbcgam.com/pdf/fund-facts/etfs/rcdb_e.pdf). Seems fairly reasonable on both sides.
I wouldn't be concerned about ZSDB closing personally. Even if it does, bond funds closure isn't disastrous as they're extremely unlikely to have a large capital gain anyways, so you can just switch to another fund with minimal to no pain.

There seems to be a huge difference in AUM between the ZSDB vs. RCDB (161m vs 1200m), I wonder why the BMO fund hasn't "taken off" as it is very comparable to the RY counterpart. Watching out for bid-ask spread when buying/selling, any other concerns opting for BMO?

Thank you, this also looks interesting. I do wonder though if adding US based bonds will have any diversification benefits although MER for both RCDB and ZSDB is definitely more attractive when compared to DXDB.

I use ZDB because I'm investing for the long-term so I want a reasonably high duration.
