The reason I did not go with ZLB is that Canada is only 3% of the world markets so I prefer ZLD international and wide exposure. It pays 2.3% in dividend which is fine, even if more goes to the tax man (no preferred tax treatment).

According to who? Look at the volume compared to other international ETFs. ZLD has substantially less volume than most, despite the fact these are both among the oldest ETFs in Canada.
There's a reason why these ETFs have such low volume, stay away.....there are better options.
