I've been attracted more and more to Canada's lower volatility and in particular, to the continuing strength, not to mention high dividends, of its financial sector. It's hard to accept lower returns, lower yields, and higher volatility just to diversify more geographically. If you look at the last year's stock chart of something like XDIV and compare it to just about anything, from XEQT to XWD, XDIV is just so much better in every respect. Same for BK and ZEB, the return on these bank ETFs beat out every other ETF in Canada over the past year without anything remotely like the volatility of the tech ETFs.
Is that likely to last? Of course not! But for now, I'm staying with what's working.
