They're starting to get there. Most of the production is 20-30 years old and there just wasn't a ton of capital investment in regions that were historically fairly volatile. ESP and most artifical lift system markets are growing in Asia and other areas of previously low investment. Power availability and shit gas prices were also likely a limiting factor in some areas.
Artifical lift seems like fairly basic tech to Canadians, but we've been optimizing production and resevoirs for 50-60 years. There's been virtually no true "wildcatters" in Canada for years, so the game has been optimization and efficiency for decades. Over the last 15 or so years we've started to see a wave of Canadians apply that lesson elsewhere.
