Hi everyone,
I use RBC Dominion Securities for my portfolio and have always found it tedious to honestly track my performance against market benchmarks (S&P 500, TSX, etc.) while properly accounting for regular deposits and withdrawals. I also wanted to use a local agent (I use Claude Code) to assess my portfolio.
To solve this for myself, I built a small local web app and decided to open-source it in case anyone else finds it useful.
**What it does:**
* **Ingests standard RBC DS files:** You just download your regular CSV exports (Holdings/Activity) or monthly PDF statements from the RBC DS portal and drag-and-drop them in. It auto-detects the files and parses them locally.
* **Parallel-portfolio simulation:** Instead of just comparing flat percentage returns, it simulates an index portfolio that "buys" and "sells" on the exact dates of your external cash flows. This gives you a dollar-for-dollar line on the same chart so your contributions don't skew the benchmark comparison.
* **Local-first & Private:** No APIs, no third-party integrations, and no data leaves your machine. It stores everything in a local SQLite database (`investments.db`).
* **Agent-friendly:** Because it uses a simple local SQLite database, you can easily point local tools or LLM agents (like Claude Code) at it to ask freeform questions about your history, fees, or dividend trends.
It's a simple Node.js project (uses a basic local web UI at `localhost:3000`). It only supports RBC Dominion Securities because that's what I use, and it handles multi-account setups (TFSA, RRSP, joint, etc.) by letting you drill down into individual accounts or view the portfolio as a whole.
