Yes, if you pour enough money into SCHD for a long enough time you will eventually get to $1,000,000. It is a "path to $1,000,000" as you said. A slow, long path. If you want to get there faster invest to maximize *total return*. Invest to maximize total return, get your portfolio to $1 million, *then* if you want dividends sell your growth assets and buy dividend payers like SCHD. You will end up wealthier sooner and with more dividend income after the conversion.
That's what I did. I grew my portfolio to over $1 million without knowing or caring about my dividend yield by maximizing total return, then started converting to dividend payers a few years before retirement. I collected $67,990 in dividends in 2025, and I don't own SCHD. I don't recommend SCHD for anyone under 50 years old.

My number is 100% for this year. I've been over 100% trailing several times, but also had some pretty deep pullbacks, not locking in my gains after some big wins. I'm at 55% YTD right now, That puts me on track for about 90% this year. If I can avoid those same mistakes and keep everything else up, I think I can hit 100% for the year. I also have trading friends with consistently 100%+ returns. I know it's doable, and just not that far a stretch from where I'm already at.
Now, going back and doing analysis on what I mishandled from a risk management perspective, would put me at about 200%. What I could've/should've done better at from a discovery perspective, would put me at more like 300%. That's my real goal.
Which I know sounds crazy. But it would only have been 3rd place in the USIC competition last year. And several people had 200% returns. The winner, Martin Luk, had almost 1,000% returns (969.8%).
So yeah, why not?
