1....Yep just a theory, but one that explains the Population Bottleneck at that time.
2.... 'Modern Food Preservation' is not a positive but a negative if highly automated, energy intensive, complex, "just-in-time" food supply chains are disrupted due to massive grid & transportation failures due to a Yellowstone VEI-8.

4....Volcanic Ash becomes a conductor when damp...so a rain/snow & even fog/mist will accomplish that. Also damp volcanic ash tends to be very corrosive. It quickly air filters & is highly destructive to machinery. Trains, Airplanes, Vehicles are inoperable in an ash environment.
The largest eruption in the last century was only a VEI-6 in 1912. The VEI-7 in the 1800s was far worse in human suffering/deaths & a VEI-8 would be nothing less than catastrophic.
You seriously are underestimating what a Yellowstone VEI-8 would do not only to the CONUS, but also the Northern Hemisphere. Basically one of the absolute worst scenarios that could happen to civilization. Human history would basically be "Before" & "After" the event.
FWIW...."Supervolcano" is a decent movie based on fact about what one would look like. Personally I think the human effects were watered down for public consumption. Link to movie below.
