What do you think privatization means? They don’t keep that ownership. US government would have to surrender that 80% and their stake to profits to the private market. The us govt and taxholders would be losing their stake.
We already saw what FRMC/FNMA are valued at when the govt is taking their profit share. <1/share.
It would be private shareholders taking all the profit, while presumably the government continues to back the mortgages, which is a perverse incentive structure
