Honestly, I have both ETFs and stocks. I prefer having some direction and moving from stock from time to time.
My opinions on the stocks you wrote:
* CNR - Overpriced. Good ROIC, but that's about it
* TD - Overpriced. Improving sales growth. If I was holding bank stock at the moment, it would most likely be NB and BMO which have better numbers. Versa is growing, but small. National is doing much better on ROIC. I do own some EQB at the moment, their sales is growing, but they aren't doing so well in ROIC.
* BNS - Overpriced. See above, good cash growth.
* Fortis - Overpriced. Good cash growth, medium equity growth, dud in all other cases. I would be holding CPX instead (and I do).
* T - Good ROIC. Of the big 3, I would be buying T, but personally instead I own BOUYY and DTEGY.
* SU - Good equity return. I would hold it, if I held oil stocks.
* ENB - Good equity and cash growth. It's fine. Nothing to write home about, nothing to celebrate.
* AQN - Good equity growth. It's fine. Nothing to write home about, nothing to celebrate.
What I do own... GoEasy, Boyd, Capital Power, Constellation, Couche-Tard, Descartes, Olympia Financial (Yield is over 7%), Fairfax Financial, Stella-Jones, Killam, OpenText and Aecon
