Using a mechanical investment system such as DCA on each payday into low cost broad market fund is smart for the long term, decades. Just do it.
That said, it’s normal to wonder if “buying the dip” is wise.
Or one might have angst about buying at ATMH.
I have found that investing anxiety often arrives when other life issues arrive. A change in job, moving, change in health, a cancer diagnosis, divorce, new baby…..
At those times, cash in HYSA is a very very good thing. As are paid up credit cards.
Now, how to buy the dips? Learn some basic technical analysis. Not day trading. Understand the medium term trend. I use a 10 month to 3 yr window. Ask yourself, is the trend up, flat, or down? A dip when the overall trend has been up? How nice! A dip when the trend is down? Nah. I’ll find excitement elsewhere.
Another helpful book in Gardiners. “12% solution”.
Dismiss simple slogans or memes.
