They rolled out Teen Accounts (13-17) and were aiming for some app/platform for children (under-13s). [https://www.messengerkids.com/](https://www.messengerkids.com/) "The video, voice and messaging app designed for kids to connect with family and friends." Anyways, what the lawyers are trying to do is take key phrases of these projects to show that "They're targeting kids! (negatively)".
I think Meta also added some privacy/accountability thing for messages in the teens app. Overall, it's more the moderation of available content and interactions versus a full-on "reading of their diary". Like, friends and contacts have to be approved. The main thing is really to prevent predators and the spread of CSAM, which I think is a better move than what Roblox did (ref: Schlep, Baszucki dating feature). 1) [https://www.meta.com/help/policies/1754656424993737/?srsltid=AfmBOoo5vl5t6bHBKQngammFRNIW\_21gJS6oTDWH1ME1X2XPCQiffzfq#:\~:text=Additional%20Messenger%20Tools-,Parental%20Supervision,-With%20Supervision%20enabled](https://www.meta.com/help/policies/1754656424993737/?srsltid=AfmBOoo5vl5t6bHBKQngammFRNIW_21gJS6oTDWH1ME1X2XPCQiffzfq#:~:text=Additional%20Messenger%20Tools-,Parental%20Supervision,-With%20Supervision%20enabled)

I grew up with IRC, ICQ, AIM, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, forums, Xanga, and Myspace (lol, there goes my age) - I agree about privacy. But also, especially with how much everything is recorded these days and how quickly things spread like wildfire, I think protecting them from making irreparable mistakes is important too. It's a balance between the two (as a parent).
