You not understanding the strategy doesn't mean he doesn't. META releases a ton of open source models that end up being used to further AI models from tons of companies. DINO or SEM are examples. Open sourcing small large language models does not retract from the state of the art closed source models. You want devs utilizing your models and trusting the training data and pipeline you've put together. Currently everyone uses Qwen. META wants a piece of it. Having no exposure to the AI models people actually run does not help.
