Critical Care Medicine. Rounding on one patient which takes around 35 minutes bills 4.5 RVUs, so roughly 150 bucks. Intubation is 3 RVU, a central line, cordis, or HD line is 1.7 RVUs so about $100 and $55 respectively. A bronch is 2.5 RVU so $80. Supervising CPR is 3.9 RVUs. Additional critical care time beyond 75 minutes is 2.2 RVU. Arterial line is about 0.3 RVU.
So all together, a full Monty resus of a code blue with CPR, ROSC, intubation, putting in a cvc for meds + a cordis or HD cath for large volume/rapid infusion, throwing down a bronch to suck out all the gunk, and then an hour and a half of critical care (which is about what one of these takes) is 17.3 RVU or $570, for in total around 2-2.5 hours of work.
Our system uses a fancy calculator to calculate our $/RVU on a sliding scale but ultimately it shakes out to about $33/RVU, which is what Medicare pays as well.
