ROL is among the finest compounding companies in the whole market. Every quarter or nearly every quarter is better than the last one (ttm and ttm per share basis)
However, just like other companies with the same characteristics, that multiple compression is a looming risk. even at 30x

That's roughly where a price and news sequence model I work on lands too, at the 2-month horizon. Its read from Friday's close leans short on ROL, and about 70% of it is price action rather than news. It says nothing about the five-year business case, which is a different question.

Agree on the business. I ran ROL through my own screen a couple days ago (kabrios.com/ROL.html) and landed close to where you did. Quality pillars grade out well, composite 4.12/5, with fair value around $50 against the $33 print. So call it 0.65x price to value, slightly more generous than your DCF.

Couple of caveats on my own numbers though. The DCF leg didn't run for me, missing inputs, so that $50 is multiples only. And ROL's 5 year average P/E is 51.6x vs 30.3x today, which means any "cheap relative to history" argument is anchored to a period nobody should want to anchor to.

The part that keeps me from buying yet is trend. 35% under the 200 day and sitting near the 52 week low.

Nothing has found a floor. On the family transition, I'd put that below multiple compression on the risk list. Paying 50x for a 10-12% FCF compounder was always the fragile piece of this. Governance drift just takes away the story people used to justify it.

**Description:**
Rollins, Inc. (ROL) is one of the largest pest control companies in the world, holding leading market share in the U.S. and Canada with a presence in 70 countries. The company owns several pest control brands, including Orkin, HomeTeam, Northwest, Fox Pest Control, Clark, Safeguard, and Critter Control. Rollins provides pest control and termite services to 2.8 million+ residential & commercial customers across more than 800 company-owned and franchised locations.
**Business Segments:**
* **Residential (\~45% of revenue):** Focuses on routine, recurring contracts to protect homes from common pests, bed bugs, and mosquitoes. These contracts are serve Rollins well because they allow technicians to increase route density.
* **Commercial (\~34% of revenue):** Provides hygiene / pest management services to hospitality, healthcare, food processing, and restaurant operations. The nice part about this segment is the strict regulatory and compliance standards. Usually generates multi-year contracts (typically 2 to 5 years) and higher retention.
* **Termite & Ancillary (\~20% of revenue):** Preventative termite treatments and specialized services including wildlife removal, crawlspace encapsulation, and attic remediation.
* **Franchise & Other (\~1% of revenue):** Domestic and international franchise agreements under Orkin, Critter Control, and other subsidiaries.
**Competitive Advantages:**
* **Route Density & Efficiency:** High route density is enabled through proprietary Branch Operating Support System (BOSS) and Virtual Route Management (VRM) technologies. More density = more profit per mile driven and fewer fixed costs per stop, leading to superior operating and EBITDA margins compared to peers.
* **Brand Recognition & Pricing Power:** National brands like Orkin benefit from decades of marketing and localized organic search visibility. Customers care far more about solving pest problems than small price differences, enabling consistent pricing power.
* **High Customer Retention & Recurring Cash Flows:** Approximately 80% of revenue is contractual and recurring. Retention rates remain in the 80% to 90%+ range, driven by non-discretionary customer needs and long-term commercial relationships.
* **Scale Advantage in M&A:** The U.S. pest control industry is fragmented, with over 20,000 to 34,000 independent mom-and-pops. Rollins is more of a serial acquirer, using its scale, balance sheet, and back-office integration to roll up smaller operators at a decent profit.
**Capital Allocation Strategy:**
Historically, management targets distributing \~50% of free cash flow via dividends, allocating 20% to 40% toward bolt-on M&A, and directing remaining cash toward operational reinvestment or accretive buybacks. Rollins frequently generates free cash flow conversion of 120%+ (music to quality investors' ears). Balance sheet leverage remains clean, with net debt to EBITDA typically sitting around 0.7x.
**Risks:**
* **Loss of Family Ownership & Governance Shifts:** The main risk to the thesis is the ongoing family transition. LOR, Inc. (the Rollins family vehicle) has reduced its equity stake from 40% down to roughly 30% via secondary offerings. Combined with RSA vesting schedules shortening from 5 years to 3 years and an outside CEO, there are signs the business could gradually transition away from its traditional long-term family style and more toward standard corporate tactics.
* **Capital Allocation Missteps on Repurchases:** Rather than opportunistically buying back stock during market drawdowns, the company funded major debt-backed share repurchases in 2023 and 2025 directly from the family's secondary offerings at high valuations (\~47x and \~55x P/E).
* **Synergy Headwinds & M&A Pipeline:** As Rollins grows to a larger size, maintaining high organic growth requires more bolt-on acquisitions to sustain similar growth rates. Failure to find quality targets could stall growth.
With the stock experiencing a \~50% drawdown over the last 9 months, Rollins presents an interesting setup. The core underlying business remains a recession-resistant compounder driven by favorable demographics, population shifts to the Sun Belt, and non-discretionary customer demand. **I believe this drawdown might offer an attractive long-term entry opportunity for a high-quality serial acquirer.**
What do you all think about Rollins at these levels? Agree or disagree on the family transition risk? Other thoughts?
