Yes, i self manage mid 8 figures. I have close friends that are bankers. One GS and one indy. They can turn you on to some specialty investments like 1031 into a REIT that might fit special cases. Otherwise it’s mostly a service that entertains and keeps you from selling or overspending. Before I sold my business JPM managed a very small amount for me and I ended up with a mix of approx 29 ETFs that underperformed the S&P and my self managed. In reality most of these specialty investments don’t fit well with a multigenerational plan. At some point they will/should get sold. Broad ETFs are as close to timeless as you can get other than physical real estate and I’m trying to get out of the latter. Even NNN industrial isn’t completely passive and it can’t be split easily.

SCHD is certainly a solid performer, but I could not retire solely on 3.25% yield. If you plan on selling shares, total return, investing in retirement then OK. Lots of other good options out there to diversify the dividend portfolio before retirement. I hold 90 positions in retirement and have grown my income and my total asset base since retiring 3 yrs. ago. Now some of those are individual baby bonds and preferreds. But, I have RET's like O and NNN. I also have mortgage REIT's, a wide variety of CEF's and other ETF's, MLP's and muni CEF's like RMM. Just added a couple of NEOS funds. All in all I'm about 40% fixed income.

Been there. I made good money in the 90s-2008 but after that the returns paled in comparison to the market except for brief periods when there was hyper appreciation like 2021. Residential is definitely not passive. I only have industrial NNN which is closer to passive.
