Ok. Good stuff. Yeah, a few years back i was very disillusioned with the system. Got my work pension (which is your 1st step as your employer contributes too), own my house and my car, but otherwise nothing - so i got into all this.
This is not financial advice. This is just if you want to emulate what ive done.
I would suggest something like 90/10 stocks/bitcoin, so for every 100 quid, 90 is going into ideally a good all world etf.
If you go bitcoin, as an exchange use Strike. Others are available but strike is btc-only so youre avoiding the shitcoin casinos like Coinbase and Kraken. With btc you MUST know what you're doing as if you make a single mistake, you can (and will) lose everything ! There is no safety net. No helpline. I learned most through Reddit tbh, but every dm offering to help is a scammer. Ignore them. You need to learn a bit 1st anyway as the exchanges have to ask you questions to ensure you know what you're doing by law. For storage, i use Bluewallet as my hot wallet and Trezor for my cold wallet. Avoid Ledger.
For stocks, i use Trading 212. Make sure you use the "stocks & shares isa" rather than the "invest" option and then its all tax free. On Invest youll pay capital gains tax.
Of stocks, you can get away with just a decent All World etf. Choose accumulating rather than distributing and the dividends get paid automatically back in to compound over time. Id suggest VWRP or VALL. VWRP is ~3,600 companies and VALL is ~9,000. You could go just the s&p if you wanted to just put your faith in 500 US companies and use VUAG. The s&p has historically been the best performer but that doesnt guarantee it always will.
If you must have some individual stocks, try to limit it to 2-3 that you like but they shouldnt make up more than 20% of your stock portfolio.
Another thing to bear in mind, only use money you almost definitely wont need for at least 5 years. If you start withdrawing, you lose any benefit of compounding. Your better off looking at least 10 years ahead. Bitcoin especially. Btc is that volatile it could drop 70% and go sideways for 18 months.

There’s an issue with ordering from your site. It says my billing address MUST match my shipping address. I use a military post office box because I’m stationed overseas. I also keep my bank billing address to my brothers home for consistency and proof of residency. This prevents me from using Mintbuilder.

when my wife and I get to retirement age, we plan on accounts at 2 or 3 brokerages. one of which MUST have a local in-person office.
