Yes, exactly. FTSE is already roughly 60% weighted toward US companies anyway. Both the FTSE and the S&P 500 are heavily carried by the exact same mega-cap blue chips (Google, Microsoft, Nvidia, etc.), so buying both is just redundant overlap. However, historically, the nasdaq consistently outperforms the S&P 500 if you want growth.
As for short-to-medium term holds, I don't give out generic picks because it depends on the strategy. But if you are genuinely interested, I can spend a day building a custom portfolio of 30-50 tickers (essentially your own "mini-ETF") tailored to your specific goals, in exchange for a $50 amazon gift card.
Just to be transparent about my methodology: I never buy crypto, gold, silver, or the "hype-of-the-month" stocks (like overpriced AI or semiconductors). I hunt for under-the-radar, deeply discounted companies with real, tangible assets and stable cash flows - like accenture (consulting), KBR (engineering), or presidio (oil & gas). I find value in unsexy sectors like insurance or industrials.
I usually divide a portfolio into different risk tiers (from conservative to aggressive) so you can run a few strategies simultaneously, like dividend compounding mixed with selling covered calls.
If that sounds like what you are looking for, shoot me a DM. Let me know your exact financial goal, your risk tolerance, and how much time you are willing to spend managing it each month (it shouldn't take more than one day a month). We can go from there.
