Its negetive if you factor in inflation, things have gotten much more expensive and how badly the INR is deprecated

Hi all,
I know we have passionate folks here. I am a full-time software engineer who recently started creating content as well. I can invest around 2L to 3L INR in someone who needs it or has ideas we can brainstorm together or their startups.

In last 5yr sensex real return is ~ 2% in INR and negative in USD terms. However I don't trust govt inflation numbers. A Sr banker once told me to add 1-2% points above your annual FD rates to get close to consumer level inflation. GDP is meaningless with substandard data quality.

People brainwashed by Fin influencers will downvote this and say 'at least we will gain with INR depreciating'

Crypto (and all major assets in the world) trade in USD. Other currency rates are just their currency converted into USD.
The INR USD forex market and USD BTC crypto market are independent markets.

for 5-min NIFTY data going back to 2007: NSE directly doesn't give you historical intraday that far. a few options:
1. Kite Connect historical API - if you have a zerodha account, gives you 2000 days of 1-min data per request. decent coverage.
2. True Data / Global Data Feed - paid services, INR 500-2000/month depending on what you need. cleanest data.
3. For free: Yahoo Finance has daily OHLC going back far but nothing intraday. For 15-min and above, some NSE screeners export 6-12 months.
4. Unofficially: there are some kaggle datasets with historical nifty intraday if you just search "nifty historical intraday kaggle". quality varies, worth validating against a known reference.
for backtesting itself, backtrader or zipline work well with CSV imports.
