It depends on your outlook and risk profile. Do you have faith that the stock market will continue to do well in the long term, or do the ups and downs scare you?
I spent 20 years before retirement resisting the "conventional wisdom" that I should be safe and invest a portion in bonds. Sticking with 99% stocks netted me a *lot* more.
I'm 7 years into retirement now, and I'm up to about 5% bonds and 5% "cash-like equivalents" such as GSY and VUSXX that typically pay better dividends than bond funds, and stay ahead of inflation.
