\> Latest bad news is that there now seems to be a US based investment house bidding war for Easyjet.

it helps to recognise stuff like that as the opportunity rather than the bad news. I mean EZJ was 350p and will end up 750p within a couple of months. Longer term EZJ has been a nice oscillating trade between 400p and 600p. It also paired really well with BP. Who cares if it ends up leaving the LSE . It was a clear opportunity while it lasted. Investing is to make money rather than naval gaze at UK plc relative attractiveness. Even now, EZJ remains a massive safe opportunity (at least for me) as it is priced well under what I see the final bid will likely be. I'll probably pile a bit more in in the coming days. Easyjet is the nicest example of a nice to trade or hold stock and it isn't overcrowded or fast moving.
If you are a Long term investableĀ person then maybe leave it the collective investments. Even passives like Vanguard UK equity income fund is a nice part of a portfolio but there are lots of opportunities for active investing whether by the individual or outsource. Ftse discounts are the opportunity.
