So the thirst for the more and more elusive yield allowed an upstream attack to infect the whole system, even though, as you've said, Aave and Compound behaved normally. Their failsafe alarms didn't catch it or, maybe weren't really built to catch it.
That list bit about the Clarity Act might then be a net good for DeFi, so long as legislators and regulators don't push it too far. I'm thinking the safest way to engage with DeFi is counterintuitive: Just stick to DWX's like Hyperliquid until this nonsense is purged from the space. Wild West Defi seems very risky.
What I don't get is why the oracle didn't catch this. It would seem they must have one or more at different levels of the "stream." There are certainly enough oracles out there to do the job. ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯
