My hot take: the softness of .999 silver concerns me a little, but I like that there’s no math involved like there is with junk silver—which, obviously, isn’t being made anymore.
If spot is $62, each Bitz is worth $6.20. That’s pretty cool.
I don’t really expect some full-blown SHTF scenario, but I own a home repair business, and honestly, I wish more customers asked if they could pay me in silver. So yeah, I’m personally down with the silver-barter movement. Sign me up.
As for the premium, I don’t think it’s THAT bad. I found cheaper fractional silver on Defy the Grid, but I just don’t like those pieces as much as the Bitz.
The real problem is the $30 flat-rate shipping. I’d have to buy pounds of this shit just to spread that extra cost out. Once these things get wholesaled to local coin shops, though, I think they’re going to be pretty popular.
I bought the dispenser and 48 Bitz, and I’m in love with the setup. I also bought a bunch of the different, cheaper fractional options from DTG just to compare them, and I like the Bitz way better.
Here’s my plan: buy more when I’m in New Hampshire in about six weeks, avoid the shipping, and sit on them until the silver value catches up to what I paid.
Then I’ll start offering them to friends and family instead of cash when I owe somebody for pizza, beer, or whatever else comes up—you know, all the random stuff people use Venmo for now.
And mostly, I’m just going to have fun with it.
