You know, I feel like there's a fundamental distinction in humanity which I would like to investigate further. I mean this seriously, and not merely as an anti-baggie remark.
...it seems to me that there's one group of people who understand that they know nothing and are often wrong, and there's the flip side group who cannot admit ever being wrong regardless of counterexamples.
It's not narcissism, per se (although that's certainly involved), it's ... something else that I am SURE has been investigated, but unfortunately I am not aware of those investigations.
Like, yeah, OK, I worked McD drive-thru for a while. One of my co-workers asked me a legit question about (something) and I gave a reasonably correct and clear answer. Another random co-worker remarked "you think you know everything, don't you?"
...and my response was "No, I'm pretty sure the things I don't know outweigh the things I do know by several orders of magnitude."
They had no idea what to do with that response.
It's not merely Dunning-Kruger, IMO, there's something else at work in their minds. DK is involved, narcissism is involved, but the base is something else. If I were Freud I'd say ego damage, but that's not it either.
...like I'm honestly wondering if there's some kind of perceptual distortion that's occurring.
