DFMC is structured as a share class of DFSCX, similar to how (for example) VTI is structured as a share class of VTSAX. Vanguard used to hold a patent on this but it expired some time back.
In all honesty, it mainly lets Dimensional a) make DFSCX more tax efficient b) allow them to write DFSCX's history as DFMC's own.
