Some food for thought.
Symbotic CEO just mentioned on their earnings call that they expect to outfit all of their robots with LiDAR sensors over the next 2 years. He mentioned that their robots are much faster and heavier than others companies that are using LiDAR today - those bots are not as big and move much slower. He compared it more to an automated vehicle. He also mentioned that LiDAR sensors used to cost $5,000 and are now more like $500. He painted a picture where they are striving towards a true automated warehouse, where humans do not need to get involved very often. The plan is to combine their recently acquired (July 2nd) software company called ARMS Innovation with AI and LiDAR to enable this level of automation.
