Even if this deal does get blocked, AMD with others need to start engineering split in where Models get sourced. With HF, there were no issues with AMD or anyone else working closely with Kernel optimization engines at HF and model developers themselves to ensure zero day support on new releases. These require access to hardware that are ahead of market release and certainly involving NDA and not information you share with your closest competitor. So that's just moves the entire business relationships AMD had with HF from partner to competition. AMD can deal with this in multiple ways. We may now be at a place with the technology where the hands on model optimization services HF was providing just is obsolete and can be completed automated into the Model Development build and deployment process and that is partly why I think some of my bigger fears may be over done. It kinda like when normal software is compiled, you just select the CPU instructions set your binary is going to target and build it. So HF isn't having to step in and hand tune models any more, and why they are looking for a buy out. HF just turns into a fancy search archive with model cards and not much more. Anybody can stand up an alternative and anybody can point their systems at alternative model repository. Look at how Maven handles distinction from private and public repository for Java POM and you can get an idea how this can shift away from HF being to only place people can pull from. GIT likely will also take on a larger role with model distribution. But it's highly likely we'll see other model discovery sites start poping up.
