Have seen this first hand with my Uncle who passed away in an accident leaving his family completely unaware of his investments apart from the standard PF, Bank Accounts and Insurance, spent a good 3 months helping my cousins trace all mutual funds and stocks and misc investments.They could recover only about 80% funds as those days not everything was digital.
Again after a few years a young cousin passed away during covid leaving his family struggle to get all details, this time though the digital footprint helped a bit.
Excel sheets, diaries and details written on papers kept in a locked cupboard will not always be current as the effort to keep this data updated is huge.
Had started building a 360 deg finance application with this in mind a few years ago, but getting ppl to trust 3rd parties with all their financial details is not easy, especially in India with our lax data privacy regulations.
Recently built my own private PFM app with local data storage having all information related to my financial positions across asset classes - online n offline. With auto updated positions and MTM (Eq, MF, Crypto, PMS etc) and manually updated values for held away assets.
Its still WIP with the nominee hand over pack on my list. It has multi profile and household consolidated views so it can be shared with my family to get all information in one place.
If anyone has more inputs on what else to add to this app, it would be great.
