Congratulations on starting early.
ETFs are the way to go. They do the stock selection for you, and rebalance any where from monthly to quarterly to semi-annually. Then you can just select the ETFs based on their performance and what appeals to you.
The market moves in phases rotating from one type of investment to another. When the market is going up like gangbusters, invest in Momentum ETFs as they outperform the S&P500 (VOO, VTI, SPY, etc.) or the NASDAQ100 (QQQ, QQQM, etc.). When the market goes sideways - like now - move from Momentum ETFs to Quality, Value and Dividend ETFs. When the market goes down (through the 100 day moving average) - move to cash (SGOV/CSHI, etc.). This investment plan can last you your entire lifetime.
Momentum ETFs - [https://finviz.com/screener?v=211&t=DWAS,MTUM,PIE,QTUM,JMOM,IGM,SEIM,VFMO,XSVM,AVUV,FDMO,AMOM,XMVM,SPMO,IMOM,QMOM](https://finviz.com/screener?v=211&t=DWAS,MTUM,PIE,QTUM,JMOM,IGM,SEIM,VFMO,XSVM,AVUV,FDMO,AMOM,XMVM,SPMO,IMOM,QMOM)
Quality, Value and Dividend ETFs - [https://finviz.com/screener?v=211&t=DGRO%2CUSMV%2CVIG%2CLVHI%2CVYMI%2CIVLU%2CCGDG%2CQUAL%2CDYNF%2COUSM%2CVAMO%2CSCHD%2CFPRO%2CSCHY%2CPPI%2CISVL%2CIDVO](https://finviz.com/screener?v=211&t=DGRO%2CUSMV%2CVIG%2CLVHI%2CVYMI%2CIVLU%2CCGDG%2CQUAL%2CDYNF%2COUSM%2CVAMO%2CSCHD%2CFPRO%2CSCHY%2CPPI%2CISVL%2CIDVO)
Inverses - You can invest in these when the market goes down hard - THEY GO DOWN WHEN THE MARKET GOES UP, AND GOES UP WHEN THE MARKET GOES DOWN. Short term only and only small positions -- [https://finviz.com/screener?v=211&p=m&t=BTAL%2CMYY%2CRWM%2CPSQ%2CSBB%2CSQQQ%2CSPDN%2CSH%2CUDN%2CDOG%2CSDOW%2CSPXS%2CSPXU](https://finviz.com/screener?v=211&p=m&t=BTAL%2CMYY%2CRWM%2CPSQ%2CSBB%2CSQQQ%2CSPDN%2CSH%2CUDN%2CDOG%2CSDOW%2CSPXS%2CSPXU)
Use [FinViz.com](http://FinViz.com) \- it is free for the most part. It is an excellent tool. You can also use [https://stockanalysis.com/](https://stockanalysis.com/) as it has an excellent ETF comparison tool (for up to 11 items at a time). Here is a comparison between VOO (S&P500 SPY, the NASDAQ QQQM) and a couple of momentum etfs and quality, value, dividend etfs

During Jan 2022 to July 2023 PSQ and SH when the market was down 30% these were up 40%. Otherwise, you don't want to touch them.

There are a couple of daily stock market analysis videos on youtube that are very good, that cover the entire market. They run about 20 minutes each and have a weekend wrap-up. I would suggest listening to 1 one day, and the other the next day, to get a range of market opinions. They go over the market performance and the backing data. Between these two, you will get a pretty good idea of what is going on.
