This morning at 6:48 AM my scanner flagged CRNT on unusual pre-market volume, gapping up \~6%. Reflex says "runner, look for a long entry." The liquidity read said the opposite, and I think the anatomy is worth sharing because it's a pattern that repeats constantly on small-cap gappers:
* Price swept the higher-timeframe swing high and got rejected immediately — the wick closed at basically 0% of the candle. Someone sold every share of that breakout.
* Short-side strength was reading roughly 40 vs 18 for longs — order flow was net selling *into* the green candles.
* The whole move was happening inside a stacked liquidity zone, with resistance at 2.32 and support at 2.30. A two-cent coil after a vertical move, with bearish structure, usually resolves down.
By 8:30 the spike was fading. Not a victory lap — a 2-hour sample proves nothing on its own — but the point is the checklist: swept level + instant rejection + selling into strength + tight coil under resistance. When those four line up, "it's green" is not a reason to be long.
What I keep relearning: gap % tells you where the attention is. Order flow tells you which side the money is on. They disagree more often than they agree.
Curious what others use to tell a real breakout from a swept-high rejection in the first hour — volume profile, tape, L2, or just structure?
*(I log every one of these reads with a timestamp, winners and losers both — format's linked in my profile if anyone's curious.)*
