I only posted to report about CMG's recent price movement. I don't have a position in the company.
Based on what I understand, CMU isn't looking to become a serial acquirer like CSU. They're willing to pay a little premium on companies if those companies can help them strengthen their suite of energy sector modeling software. Their moat is in the stickiness of this software. It's supposedly used throughout the sector. I believe Mayer's thesis is that further acquisitions, if done correctly, will further strengthen their moat.
