In May, a security researcher released a frontier AI model on ZEC, and it found a vulnerability allowed the creation of ZK proof for transactions that weren’t actually valid. It had been in the code for over 4 years, and Claude opus found it in 1 day… drove down the price 31%
ZEC was designed with new vulnerabilities being found in mind, so a multi-layered verification system called “turnstile” was introduced that stopped the PoC from being able to replicate.
They also acted extremely quickly in the context of the event.
This created a big wave of fresh interest in the project, as well as some other reasons, but I think this is what was a main driving factor.
